Arrow-task experiment
Ready.- Practice the arrow task (8 trials, with feedback).
- Baseline arrow task (60 trials, about 2 min).
- Intervention for 5 minutes: focused-attention meditation, physical exercise, Stroop training, or quiet rest.
- Arrow task again (60 trials), then results.
About 12 minutes. Needs no headset. Use the keyboard: arrow keys (or F / J).
Nice work — that's the behavioral part.
Your results stay here (use the “Guided lab” tab to come back).

All metrics
RT = reaction time. Mean, median and variability use correct trials only. Accuracy = correct ÷ trials answered. No answer = no key within 1.5 s. Flanker interference = mean RT on incongruent trials − mean RT on congruent trials: how much the distracting arrows slowed you down. “Trial-to-trial noise” is the standard error of the averages — changes smaller than about twice that are unclear.
Think about it
- Speed or accuracy? Did your reaction time and accuracy move in the same direction? Getting faster while making more mistakes is a speed–accuracy trade-off, not a clear improvement.
- Practice or intervention? You did the task twice. How much of any change could come from practice, boredom or tiredness? How would the other groups' results (especially quiet rest) help you tell?
- How far can you go? What would you need — a control group, many participants, a delay before retesting, a different task — before saying the intervention caused the change?
Important: a change straight after five minutes does not show lasting attention training, and it does not show transfer to other tasks or to everyday life. It is one person, 60 trials per test.
